Mekong je jednou z nejdelších a nejvýznamnějších řek v jihovýchodní Asii, protékající přes šest zemí, včetně Číny, Myanmaru, Laosu, Thajska, Kambodže a Vietnamu. JEZERO TONLE SAP V KAMBODŽI
Tonle Sap je propojeno řekou se stejným názvem (Tohle Sap) s řekou Mekong a má neobvyklou vlastnost – během deštného období dochází ke zpětnému toku vody z Mekongu do jezera. Když v Mekongu díky období dešťů stoupne hladina vody, otočí se tok řeky Tonle Sap vedoucí do jezera a začne ho naplňovat. To pak dokáže svojí velikost zvětšit až pětinásobně. Naopak, v suchém období kdy hladina Mekongu klesne se otočí tok vody a jezero se začne doslova vylívat zpět do Mekongu. Rozloha jezera je 2500 až 3000 km² (v létě během období dešťů až 10 000 km²). Hloubka jezera se mění od 1 až 2 m do 10 až 14 m.
